Alliance for Seafood Solutions

Strengthening Commitment to Responsible, Sustainable Seafood by 2030

The Seafood Consumers Association (SCA) proudly announces its membership in the Conservation Alliance for Seafood Solutions (CASS), marking a significant step forward in its mission to promote environmentally responsible, socially equitable, and economically sustainable seafood practices. This partnership connects SCA to a global coalition—known as the Alliance’s Global Hub—uniting industry leaders, NGOs, and communities all striving for a shared vision: a world where abundant seafood, thriving oceans, and fair treatment for workers and communities are a reality.

Aligning Ambitious Goals for Sustainable Seas

SCA’s core goal is to empower consumers and businesses to make informed choices that safeguard both the oceans and seafood-dependent communities. Through education, advocacy, and collaboration, SCA aims to create real change across the entire seafood supply chain, ensuring responsible practices become the industry standard.

CASS, internationally recognized for driving collective progress, has set out an ambitious objective: by 2030, 75% of global seafood production must be environmentally responsible or making verifiable improvements, with robust safeguards for social responsibility. This aligns seamlessly with SCA's mission to ensure seafood not only supports healthy oceans but also respects human rights and community well-being.

“Our vision extends beyond simply providing sustainable seafood options. We want to guarantee that every piece of seafood contributes positively to both people and planet,” said Dr. Daman Shrivastav PhD, Deputy Chair, Seafood Consumers Association. “Joining the Conservation Alliance amplifies our ability to drive industry-wide improvements, share expertise, and demonstrate collective leadership in responsible seafood.”

A Collective Pathway to 2030

The Alliance’s Global Hub, of which SCA is now an active part, serves as a dynamic platform connecting members to resources, news, and innovative solutions. This facilitates deeper engagement, faster progress, and broader impact. SCA will now benefit from direct access to the Alliance’s thought leadership, including:

  • Best-practice Guidelines for Companies and Fishery Improvement Projects, supporting actionable change across supply chains.
  • Monthly communications featuring sector updates, exclusive events, and opportunities for direct collaboration.
  • A community forum—both online and through LinkedIn—where changemakers exchange knowledge, discuss challenges, and drive progress toward shared outcomes.

“As a new Alliance member, SCA looks forward to deepening relationships with retailers, producers, conservation groups, and policy makers, so all stakeholders can advance together toward the 2030 target,” added Daman. “SCA is committed to engaging actively sharing insights from our consumer outreach, elevating the voices of seafood-buyers, and supporting improvement projects with on-the-ground impact.”

Why This Matters Now?

Overfishing, climate change, and supply chain abuses present urgent threats to ocean health and community livelihoods worldwide. Global demand for seafood continues to rise, making sustainable management—environmental and social—an imperative, not an option.

By aligning with CASS, SCA takes a strong position, advocating for:

  • Transparency and Improvement:Encouraging all actors to adopt traceable, verifiably responsible practices, using robust data and clear metrics.
  • Inclusive Progress:Supporting initiatives that include small-scale fishers, indigenous communities, and often-overlooked supply chain workers in decision-making and benefit-sharing.
  • Consumer Empowerment:Equipping consumers with accurate information and accessible guidance, so their choices help drive demand for responsible seafood.
