ACCC Country of origin food labelling (CoOL): Seafood is considered a ‘priority’ food by ACCC this means industry must follow the rules set out in an information standard. A trial for restaurants/take-aways for new CoOL rules on seafood is under way using A/I/M categories and it will become law in 2026.
Australian Fish Names Standard AS5300 - The Australian Fish Names Standard was approved and launched in 2007. This Standard includes agreed names for over 600 commercially important domestic and imported species of fish, and over 5,000 other domestic finfish. The process of assigning these agreed names drew on the expertise of several of the world’s best fisheries taxonomists, governments and other key stakeholders.
